Teak Root Care
Imported Teak Root chairs have been sanded and oiled
- no assembly or additional finishing required.
There
is not much you will need to do to keep your teak
root furniture looking great and lasting a long
time. Any wood furniture, if left outdoors, will
eventually lose it's color and turn gray due to
the elements.
Some
customers like this look - others wish to keep the
original finish. To keep your teak root furniture
looking it's best, follow these easy tips:
1)
Once a year (or more often, if you like doing this),
oil your teak root with a natural preservative such
as Seafin Teak Oil™ or any outdoor marine
type finish that is an oil such as tung oil, teak
oil, etc - make sure it is for outdoor use. (Do
not use a varnish or laquer - see below)
This
may be wiped on with a rag, brushed on - or even
sprayed on if you have access to a paint sprayer.
2) Cover during the winter snow and rain to minimize
water standing on the seat which may mold or leave
water rings. This is easy - just wrap with a tarp
and tie it up.
If
left unprotected, your teak root furniture finish
may be reclaimed by a light sanding of any roughed-up
surfaces due to standing water if necessary, and
then re-oiled several times. Allow a full day between
oil coats.
NOTE:
DO NOT use a varnish or a laquer unless you plan
on keeping your teak root furniture indoors. These
look great at first - nice and glossy, but it takes
a long time for these to dry and they will collect
dust and debris while drying which will get stuck
to the chair and require sanding. Used outdoors,
they will eventually crack, peel or blister.
